At Goaco, we believe in supporting the next generation of talent and offering real-world insights into the diverse and dynamic world of consultancy. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting three enthusiastic students for a work experience programme that was nothing short of transformative. They immersed themselves in various aspects of our business, gaining hands-on experience in consultancy, data analytics, delivery, service desk, and cyber security.
The week kicked off with an introduction to the consultancy environment. Our students were welcomed with an overview of Goaco’s mission, values, and the breadth of services we offer. They learned about the pivotal role consultants play in driving digital transformation and solving complex business challenges. Through interactive sessions, they grasped the importance of effective communication, client relationship management, and strategic thinking in delivering value to our clients.
As the programme continued, the students explored the world of data analytics, guided by our expert data scientists. They learned how to collect, clean, and analyse data to uncover meaningful insights. By the end of the experience, they appreciated the power of data in driving informed business decisions and how analytics can reveal trends and opportunities that would otherwise go unnoticed.
The focus then shifted to delivery and project management. The students joined our delivery team to understand the intricacies of managing projects from inception to completion. They learned about various project management methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, and the importance of timelines, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement. Shadowing our project managers, they saw first-hand the coordination and adaptability required to ensure successful project delivery.
Immersion in our service desk operations revealed how it acts as the frontline support for our clients, addressing issues and ensuring seamless operations. The students participated in mock scenarios, learning how to troubleshoot common problems, escalate issues, and provide exceptional customer service. This experience highlighted the critical role of the service desk in maintaining client satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Finally, the programme dedicated time to the ever-evolving field of cyber security. Under the guidance of our cyber security experts, the students delved into the basics of securing digital assets and the importance of protecting sensitive information. They explored various aspects of cyber security, including threat detection, vulnerability assessment, and incident response. Practical exercises on identifying phishing attacks and understanding encryption underscored the vital role of cyber security in today’s digital landscape.
When our Senior Consultant asked one of the students what the most beneficial thing they had learnt was, the response was:
“Well, I’ve learnt so much, it’s really hard to narrow it down. But if I had to say, I’d say learning how to research and collaborate with others has been really important. Although we’ve done this at Goaco, it’s really applicable to every type of company in every single industry, and it’s a really fundamental life skill, really important to have, and yeah, learning to work closely with your colleague is really important no matter what you want to do in life. I’ve really appreciated that.”
As the week concluded, it was evident that the students had gained a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to thrive in a consultancy environment. They left with a newfound appreciation for the diverse skill sets required and the dynamic nature of our industry. The hands-on experiences not only enriched their knowledge but also ignited a passion for potential career paths in consultancy, data analytics, project management, service support, and cyber security.
