At Goaco, we’re committed to building the next generation of professionals and introducing them to the fast-paced digital consultancy world. This summer, we hosted four local students for a work experience programme, where they dived into all areas of the business and gained real-life experience in data, service desk, cybersecurity, UCD, marketing and operations.
The week commenced with an overview of Goaco as a digital consultancy. Our students were greeted with warmth as they were given an induction of Goaco’s mission and values. They were shown how consultants are responsible for driving digital transformation and tackling intricate business issues. They gained insights on the significance of effective communication, client handling, and strategic thinking in order to create value for our clients through presentations and discussions.
Throughout the work experience programme, the students delved into the realm of data analytics with our skilled data scientists. They were taught how to collect, clean, and analyse data to extract useful insights. They gained awareness into the strength of data in business decision-making and how analytics can uncover trends and opportunities that would otherwise go unnoticed.
The students were then introduced to our service desk, where they took part in role playing scenarios and learnt the essentials of resolving day-to-day problems, escalating, and extending world-class customer support. It highlighted the importance of the service desk in client satisfaction and maintaining smooth operations.
Our cybersecurity team members also spent time educating the students in the fundamentals of safeguarding digital items and how important it is to protect sensitive information. The students learned about multiple aspects of cybersecurity, such as detecting threats, scanning for vulnerabilities, and responding to events. The students then were able to get hands-on experience with phony attack identification and encryption knowledge which highlighted the diligent work the cybersecurity team at Goaco performs in the modern digital environment.
Lastly, the students also took a sneak peek at the world of UCD, marketing and operations. The work experience students had the opportunity to collaborate with our User-Centred Design (UCD) team, gaining insight into how we design intuitive, user-focused digital solutions. In marketing, they learned about how campaigns are constructed, brand visibility is ensured, and company stories are told to clients and partners. From operations, they learned about how the business remains well-oiled in order to enable processes, projects and people behind the scenes.
During their work experience at Goaco, the students had a productive week, packed with hands-on learning across different departments. One student shared, “I got the opportunity to learn about, cybersecurity, data, service desk and marketing,”. The experience even inspired a potential career path: “After working with the cybersecurity team; I thought that it could be a good career path.” Reflecting on the week, they added, “The people here are great… I really enjoyed getting to know the team and what they do.”
By the end of the week, the students had acquired a clear insight into the tech world. They were left with a better comprehension of the intricate skill sets involved and the fast-developing dynamics of the field. This experience not only enhanced their knowledge of IT but also hopefully sparked an interest in potential areas of career development in data analytics, service support, cybersecurity and UCD.
