What is Black, White, and Grey Box testing?

Cyber Security Knowledge base

These terms refer to the level of access and information provided to testers:

  • Black Box Testing: Testers have no prior knowledge of the systems, simulating an attack from an outsider’s perspective.
  • White Box Testing: Provides testers with full access and information for a thorough internal examination.
  • Grey Box Testing: Combines both approaches, offering some system knowledge, which is ideal for simulating attacks from a semi-informed insider.
