One of these exceptional individuals is Associate Cyber Security Consultant, Owen Johnson. During Owen’s time at Goaco (previously known as Level 5), he has become a significant asset to the organisation and our clients. However, Owen didn’t follow the typical corporate path to secure his job.
Like many others, during the pandemic, Owen was sadly made redundant from his previous role as part of the employer’s cost-cutting measures during a challenging period for businesses. As a motivated and driven individual, Owen committed himself to self-improvement during this challenging time and enrolled in online learning. After having difficulty finding a new role, Owen made his way to a local job centre in an attempt to find work, as job openings were scarce during a time when organisations were cautious due to the uncertainty of the pandemic.
On his way back from the Gravesend Job Centre, Owen stumbled upon goaco’s Kent offices. He demonstrated his tenacity by taking a daring step into the goaco’s office, where he found director, Gaurav Malhotra, in his office with the door wide open. Owen confidently walked in and explained, “Gaurav immediately asked if he could assist me, offering me a seat in his office. We sat and spoke about my story, including my background up to this point.”
Following this conversation, Gaurav discussed Owen’s potential with the board at goaco and decided to give Owen a chance. Later that day, he emailed Owen, offering him a couple of days in the office as a trial opportunity. Within a few weeks, Owen became a permanent employee at goaco. Despite having no prior industry experience, goaco provided him with a foot in the door, valuable on-going experience, industry knowledge, and training.
When discussing Owen’s development so far, Gaurav and Roger, Head Of Cyber expressed, “We have been delighted with the outstanding progress that Owen has made since joining us as an Associate Cyber Security Consultant. He explained that he has been entrusted with opportunities to prove himself and learn through practical work on projects, gradually growing his confidence within the role.
