Developing worlds first recording studio in your pocket with a mobile app

We was presented a vision for musicians, creatives, podcasters, poets, storytellers – to record their masterpiece in under 30 minutes using an iPhone. A revolution in creativity: a four-track recording studio fitting snugly in your pocket. The main challenge faced by the development team at Goaco was to turn the visions of several high-profile music producers and sound engineers into a functioning app that met their requirements. These requirements were complex, and often changed as the project progressed.

To overcome this challenge, Goaco worked closely with the product owners from Rechord. They fostered a close relationship which allowed the product owners to deep dive into what they were trying to achieve with the app. Frequent meetings, challenging questions, and many dead ends of investigation helped to crystallize the application’s core requirements. This helped to ensure that the final product met the needs of the target users. Goaco used a fluid Agile methodology to fit around the busy schedule of the product owners. They used JIRA and Trello to help run the development, as well as giving the product owners a simplified view of the project deliverables and plan. In addition, Miro was used to help visualise the user journey and highlight key usability questions which the Rechord design team needed to answer. The iOS app was launched within 6 months, featuring all the desired functionality that the product owners wanted. It was a success on the Apple App Store, gaining a 4.4/5 star rating and a consistent number of downloads over the months since launch.
